What is this?

Children in Texas without health insurance may be able to get low cost or free health coverage from Children's Medicaid. This program covers office visits, prescription drugs, dental care, eye exams, glasses, and much more.

What Does It Cover?

  • Dentist visits, cleanings, and fillings
  • Eye exams and glasses
  • Choice of doctors, regular checkups, and office visits
  • Access to medical specialists and mental health care
  • Hospital care and services
  • Medical supplies, X-rays, and lab tests
  • Treatment of special health needs
  • Treatment of pre-existing conditions

Texas Health Steps

Texas Health Steps is for children from birth through 20 years of age who have Medicaid. Texas Health Steps provides regular medical and dental checkups and case management services at no cost to you.

Texas Health Steps will:

  • help you find a doctor, dentist, or case manager
  • help you make an appointment for a checkup
  • help you get a ride or money for gas

Be sure to take your children to all their checkups. This way they will receive the care they need at the right ages.

If you are a Traveling Farm Worker, you may be able to take your child to get their checkups sooner.

How to Get a Ride to the Doctor, Dentist or Drug Store

Community First will provide bus tokens to you if you cannot get to your medical appointment. Call Member Services if you need help with the bus fare at:
